Born in the shadow of Montana's Absaroka mountains, Avela began painting a decade ago while she was studying graphic design at Drexel University. In the few hours away from the computer lab, she would repurpose scraps salvaged from her dad's construction projects and put brush to board. Though she now works as an Emmy nominated film editor, Avela still relies on painting to reconnect to the analogue. Design foundations ground her work. Color and line. Shape and balance. She is endlessly inspired by the animals and landscapes of home.

Current collection is availabe at theory in downtown Bozeman.
